VITA/EITC Tax Preparation Assistance

Helping individuals and families achieve economic security has never been more critical than it is today. Stabilizing and maximizing income is a critical step toward financial security and economic opportunity. Hartford’s Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) campaign helps residents prepare and file income tax returns and claim refunds and credits. This free service has resulted in increased assets for local residents and more funds for the local economy, but limited awareness about the program meant that many people missed out on this service. Through the Opportunities Hartford initiative, Mayor Segarra coordinates the efforts of Hartford’s asset-building programs and services who aim to bring the VITA program to greater scale and offer additional services at VITA sites throughout the city.
