Neighborhood Revitalization

Kettering Cares

With the Love Your Block blueprint, the mayor's office in Kettering combined their ongoing participation in national Make a Difference Day with Cities of Service in order to develop an ongoing neighborhood revitalization initiative. Kettering Cares encourages community pride in one low-income neighborhood each year by assisting resident volunteers in improving their neighborhoods through general cleanup, home repair, landscaping, energy conservation, weatherization, education, and participation.

"It is because of our volunteer tradition, and the fact that our volunteers always help when asked, that I didn’t hesitate to pledge to find creative ways to utilize the time and talent of volunteers to address our City’s greatest need, neighborhood revitalization. I was excited to join my fellow mayors from around our nation to become an active member of the Cities of Service initiative."
