Many municipal governments seek original ways to enlist their residents as co-producers of solutions to their most pressing problems. Cities of Service helps those city halls create opportunities for citizen engagement through Impact Volunteering initiatives, which both make an impact on the specific issue area (sustainability; neighborhood revitalization; education outcomes, for example) as well as the broader social fabric of a community. Across the country, our coalition cities implement impact volunteering programs, designed with their local needs in mind and drawing on national best practices.
Cities of Service also directs implementation of national initiatives. The two current initiatives are: the Cities of Service Resilience AmeriCorps VISTA and the Love Your Block City Hall AmeriCorps VISTA Programs. The participating cities for each program comprise a cohort that can share specific program learnings across experiences and can provide a larger dataset on program outcomes. Explore our current initiatives to learn more about how we help better connect citizens and the local governments that serve them.
