Salt Lake City has been a member of the Cities of Service coalition since 2010, when Mayor Ralph Becker signed the declaration and committed to hiring a chief service officer. With the mayor’s leadership and the chief service officer’s hard work, Salt Lake City has been able to make significant impact in a number of areas including food security and natural resource conservation. To date, Salt Lake City has successfully partnered with more than 30 organizations to engage 10,000 volunteers to help protect and conserve more than fifteen miles of trail way, 1,000 acres of natural land and has helped to provide more than 30,000 pounds of local, organic fruit to communities in need.
